Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death.
The Him they are referring to, of course, is Jesus. The Pharisees are plotting to kill Jesus. This of course is still a part of God’s plan and will bring about the glory of God, and the Son shall be glorified through the Father. On Monday we talked about how God did show His glory through the resurrection of Lazarus. Now we are about to see how the Father will show His glory through His Son. While the week coming is generally a solemn week for Christians as we are reminded of what Jesus did on our behalf, it is also an amazing week for we see just how far God would go to redeem us.
As Easter approaches that is what I really want us to focus on: What God did for us. Too many times we think of God as this mean judge just waiting to test us, punish us and condemn us. Yet, there is nothing in the Old or New Testament that even suggests such an outrageous thing. From the beginning, when God first spoke creation into existence, God desired to have fellowship with us. This was His purpose for our creation. It is us humans who pushed away from God and not the other way around.
If you learn one thing new this entire Lent and Easter season let it be this:
I (God speaking) love you so much that I AM going to die for you.
Let us pray…
Jesus, Lord God, You are going to die for me, and I, Lord Jesus, shall live for you. In Your Name I pray. Amen
