John 12:10, 11
But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

How would you like to be Lazarus? Seriously, how would you like to be this guy? First you get sick and expect Jesus to come and make you better, but He doesn’t and you die. Then your body rots for 4 days as you are wrapped like a mummy in a tomb. Then you hear God call you out of the tomb and there you come, still wrapped up, and you have to wait for your sisters to unbind you. As if all that was not enough, now the priests in your village are plotting to kill you. If you are Lazarus you are completely innocent in all of this. You did nothing wrong. In fact, you did what was right. You are a friend of Jesus, you know Him to be God and you believe in what He says. How is it possible that all this bad stuff is happening?

It is happening because bad stuff happens to all of us, and it is only the children of God who know what is the reason behind all of it. When I say reason I mean to glorify God. I am sure there is another reason, but there are times when we just don’t understand on this side of the problem.

Lazarus is on this side of the problem. So are many of us. I am on this side and I am a part of a group of caretakers for husbands with Anoxic Brain Injuries. We talk daily, and the one thing we don’t understand is how all of this fits into God’s plan but we all know that it does fit into God’s plan.
So does the plotting of Lazarus’s death. God is using that to show us just how far the world will go to prove that Jesus did not exist. They will kill anyone He heals to discount His miracles. What the world did then they still do now and it is up to us, His children, to not allow that to happen.

They plotted Lazarus’s death but we don’t read anywhere in Scripture they succeeded. Let the world plot what it wants, God is on our side and on our side, Jesus is walking to Calvary. Let us pray.

To You, O Lord, be the glory forever, Amen.
